Wi-Fi is the primary method of connecting to the internet for many of our devices, but it isn't the same thing as the internet. If you use a cable to plug your computer into a modem, you probably don't think of the cable as the internet. The same concept applies to Wi-Fi. It is simply a method of connecting to the internet and not the internet itself. Understanding that & knowing the difference can help you troubleshoot problems at home.
There are two ways to connect to the internet – a wired connection that uses an Ethernet cable from your device to your router – or Wi-Fi, which uses radio waves traveling through the air so you can connect remotely. Wi-Fi is more convenient, but it isn't the fastest. Wi-Fi signals aren't able to transfer the information as quickly as a wired connection, and many factors can get in their way. Interference from other devices, physical barriers, and varying wireless standards limit your WiFi performance, making it unable to keep up with your internet plan.
So, if you want the fastest speeds, wired will always be faster.
