iOS is the newest update from Apple for iPhones. The new update came out with the release of the iPhone 15. The new software update is available on all iPhones from the XR to the new 15. There are many new features that were released with this new update that are both very useful and creative. If you haven’t yet, be sure to update your device to the most recent software update. Not only will you be able to use the following features, but it will also ensure the security of your device.
Sharing Contact Information:
With iOS 17, contact information can be quickly shared with another person with an iPhone running IOS 17. To share your information, bring your phone next to the phone you want to share your information with. This feature works best if you touch the top edge of your phone to the top edge of the phone you are trying to share your information with. Both phones will vibrate, and a prompt will appear on both devices, allowing you to accept or deny each other's information.
Video Voicemail in FaceTime:
When calling someone on FaceTime, you can leave a voicemail if they do not pick up. After attempting to call someone, the image on your screen will change and state that the person you are trying to reach is unavailable. You will also have three options after the call. You can close out of the call and re-dial, or there will be an option to record a video. This option will start a three-second timer that counts you into when the phone will start recording you. Once finished, a button with a green arrow will allow you to send the video voicemail. There will also be an option on the right of the screen to retake the video if you are unhappy with the one you recorded.
Live Voicemail:
In addition to traditional voicemail, there is a new form of voicemail that allows you to read incoming voicemails as people are leaving them. You can still answer or decline the call when it comes in. If the caller chooses to leave you a voicemail, your screen will start displaying the message the person is leaving as text on your screen. As the text is displayed in real-time, you can answer the call at any point of the person leaving the message. This feature allows you to screen who is calling you and why they are calling you. If you don’t have the number saved and are unsure if the caller might be someone you know, you can use this feature.
Check-in:
Check-in is a new feature that makes it easy to follow up with people when you visit a location. This makes it easy for others to know when you have arrived somewhere without forgetting to let them know you made it. Sending a check-in is easy:
- Open your messages app and go to the person you want to check in with.
- On the left of the area where you type your message is a "+" symbol. Click on it.
- A few options will appear that you can choose from. These options are updated to include the features you use the most. If you have not used check-in before, click the "More" option.
- Additional options will appear, and you will select "Check-in."
- The check-in option will populate your message area and allow you to edit it.
- Clicking on edit will take you to a new page that allows you to specify what you want the check-in to do.
- Within this new page, you can choose the recipient to be alerted when you arrive or after a set timer. You can also select the address you are going to, which allows the phone to send the recipient a message that you arrived when you get to that address.
- Additionally, you can specify the mode of transportation you are using to get to that address.
The phone will check in now and then with you. If you do not respond, it will send your location to the recipient along with your battery life and other details. The feature works this way so the recipient can help you if something happens.

You can also choose how long you want the display to stay on in settings. You can set it to auto, after 20 seconds, or never. This feature allows you to see any information that is important to you at a glance while the phone is charging without having to unlock the phone.
